Vale da Ribeira has been carefully developed
across some 30 hectares of farmland. The village of 36 houses is
located across hillsides that face south across open country
towards the sea. The natural contours have been used to provide
a balanced layout of houses, with original trees retained
wherever possible and many more planted. As a result, there is a
well-established feel to the development, a sense that it is a
part of the landscape, that it belongs. The duplex houses on the
highest level enjoy uninterrupted views across to the sea.
Villages work when there is a shared sense of
space, when people can benefit from a common sense of
belonging. The villages at Vale da Ribeira have been
designed with precise attention to detail - not only within
each property but throughout the public spaces. Each village
has its own infrastructure - with roads, footpaths, central
squares, parking areas and pools fed by running water, all
linked by ample green spaces.
